| Infertility In Women
Infertility can be traced to both men and women, with one third of the problems traced to each of the sexes. The other percentages are undetermined causes or involve both partners.
The most common cause of female infertility are ovulation disorders. When ovulation does not occur eggs are not available to be fertilized. Irregular menstrual periods or no periods are signs of problems with ovulation. Simple lifestyle factors -- including stress, diet, or athletic training -- can affect a woman's hormonal balance this can interfere with ovulation. Other reasons for female infertility include endometriosis, pelvic adhesions, tubal occlusion or uterine fibroids.
Age is another factor in female infertility. The ability of a woman's ovaries to produce eggs declines with age, especially after age 35. About one third of couples where the woman is over 35 will have problems with fertility.
