Embryo TransferEmbryo Transfer is a relatively new procedure of medical micromanipulation that is designed to improve implantation and the viability of an embryo. The procedure involves the implantation of a two to 7 day old embryo into the uterus. The ovum is held with a specialized holding pipette and a tiny, delicate needle releases a dissolving fluid to remove or thin the zona pellucida. In a common pregnancy the zona pellucida is naturally shed at this age and the fertilized egg is implanted into the uterine lining. This implantation is impeded in woman who have an elevated level of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
Medical experts often call embryo transfer the simplest technical aspect of in vitro fertilization.
