ART-Alternatives

Reproductive Technologies
Over the past several years, the expansion in knowledge and the improvement in techniques in the Advanced Reproductive Technologies (ART) has increased the variety and availability of procedures designed to assist infertile couples in attaining pregnancy.

Infertility Therapy

    • Gonadotrophin Replacement Therapy
    • Super Ovulation– Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
    • In Vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET)
    • Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)

ART-Alternatives
IVF-ET In Vitro Fertilization is the best known of the Advanced Reproductive Technologies (ARTS). It has been successful for over a decade.

Gonadotrophin Replacement Therapy restores the level of follicle stimulating hormones (FSH) normally secreted by the pituitary gland and hypothalamus in hopes of inducing ovulation increasing the chances of pregnancy.

Super Ovulation-Intra-Uterine Insemination Used in couples with a variety of problems. Stimulation with hormone medication results in the production of several follicles and multiple ovulations. The husband's sperm is processed in the laboratory and is placed in the female reproductive tract overcoming cervical and other gamete transport barriers.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF-ET) is a four stage process where eggs are collected, fertilized in a laboratory, incubated for 48 hours and transferred to the patient.

Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) Stimulation with hormonal medications results in the production of several follicles and the retrieval of multiple oocytes occurs. While an attempt is usually made to fertilize all available oocytes, not all resulting embryos are immediately transferred and can be cryo-preserved for use at a later date.

One of the advantages of FET is that the transfer of the thawed embryo will occur in a natural ovulatory cycle, reducing the chance of multiple gestation.

TDI – Theropudic Donor Insemination is a process where by donor sperm are used for fertilization and may be recommended in cases where the male partner is sterile, has a very low sperm count, or there is a possibility of male-linked genetic abnormality.

Oocyte Donation is an assisted reproduction technique (ART) in which an egg is harvested from one woman fertilized in-vetro and implanted into another woman. The recipient will then have a full-term pregnancy.
